The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Bexar Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee plan to host the 2021 Beef Cattle Short Course Web Series online Jan. 12 and Jan. 19.
The free program is open to anyone with an interest in beef cattle production in South and Central Texas. The sessions will begin at 6 p.m. and are viewable from the Microsoft Teams platform.
“This is a very popular program and is usually presented in person,” Sam Womble, Bexar County AgriLife Extension agent, said. “However, with the COVID situation, we have decided it would be best to present the short course virtually.”
He noted the information presented remains the same, just available in online format.
The efficient and economic utilization of hay and how to capitalize on niche markets will be discussed during the first session on Jan. 12.
Presenters include Larry Redmon, Ph.D., state forage specialist and AgriLife Extension program leader for the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences; Rick Turner of Turner River Ranch and president of Texas Wagyu Association; Roy Walston, former AgriLife Extension agent in Kerr County, Walston Ranch, Harper; and Ron Gill, Ph.D., Department of Animal Science associate department head and AgriLife Extension program leader for animal science at Texas A&M University.
On Jan. 19, David Anderson, Ph.D., professor and AgriLife Extension economist of livestock marketing, will provide a cattle market overview and update.
Those who wish to attend must RSVP in advance. To RSVP, email Chris Lambert at the Bexar County Extension Office at christopher.lambert@ag.tamu.edu by Jan. 5.
Once the RSVP is received, attendees will be registered and a link for the web series will be provided.
Program sponsors include Capital Farm Credit, AgWorkers Auto Insurance, Bexar County Farm Bureau, Dos Veces and Corteva.
