El Niño brought more than cooler temperatures and recent rains to the Lone Star State this year. The state is expected to have an above-average dove season as well.

According to AgriLife Today, the rains brought on by El Niño have provided an abundance of vegetation to provide food and cover for doves.

Looking to the banner year, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has decided to host a Dove Management Seminar Aug. 6 in Abilene to help area residents deal with the dove’s native habitat.

The seminar will also include a dove population status update and discussion on the interpretation of dove hunting laws and the economics of dove hunting.

There will also be a field tour of the Hailey Ranch where attendees will discuss plant identification, dove habitat assessment and dove field hunter placement.
