The Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance program (NAP), administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA), is an improved program for farmers growing specialty crops ineligible for crop insurance. NAP helps protect against losses from weather and natural disasters.
NAP is now available and offers much more than in the past. Previously, it covered 55 percent of the market price for losses exceeding 50 percent, but now it can cover 65 percent of the crop at 100 percent of the price, reports North Texas e-News.
Farmers whose typical application deadline has passed and those who grow fall-planted crops, perennials, orchards, nursery and aquaculture may enroll in NAP until Jan. 14.
