The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) has approved financial assistance totaling $293,172,193 for Texas water improvements, including rural water projects.

According to TWDB, the financial assistance will allow for the construction of an off-channel reservoir to help meet water demands in the Lower Colorado River Basin. The financing for rural water projects will include the design of a new community water supply system, improvements to a water treatment plant and construction and upgrades of wastewater treatment plants.

The financial assistance will be allocated as follows:

• $250,000,000 in financial assistance to the Lower Colorado River Authority for an off-channel reservoir in Wharton County;

• $476,112 in financial assistance, in the form of a grant, to the Beaver Creek Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 (Burleson County) for a new water system;

• $21,740,000 in financial assistance to the City of Hutto (Williamson County) for a new wastewater treatment plant;

• $8,365,000 in financial assistance to the City of Early (Brown County) for a new wastewater treatment plant;

• $1,164,980 in financial assistance to the City of Los Fresnos (Cameron County) for wastewater system improvements;

• $1,426,101 in financial assistance to the City of Los Fresnos (Cameron County) for water treatment plant improvements;

• $10,000,000 in additional financial assistance to the City of McAllen (Hidalgo County) for wastewater treatment plant upgrades.
