Savings are on the horizon as a pair of sales tax holidays are set for this weekend in Texas.
The Lone Star State’s Water-Efficient Products and ENERGY STAR® sales tax holidays will take place May 25-27.
An estimated $12.6 million dollars will be saved by families and businesses over the Memorial Day weekend, according to the Texas Comptroller’s office.
“Inefficient appliances and outdated water systems can put a tremendous strain on our power grids and water supplies,” Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said. “By taking advantage of these sales tax holidays, Texans can make upgrades that will help alleviate those pressures and lower their utility bills—while saving money on state and local sales taxes.”
Items with a WaterSense® label or logo will be tax-free for either personal or business use, including showerheads, bathroom sink faucets and accessories, toilets and landscape irrigation controls.
The holiday will also apply to lawn and garden products used residentially to conserve water. These items include soaker or drip-irrigation hoses, moisture controls for a sprinkler or irrigation system, mulch, plants, trees and grasses.
The state has not set a limit to the number of water-efficient or water-conserving products that can be purchased tax-free.
