The Wildlife Photo Show from professional photographer Russell Graves of Childress is a new online series that features regular episodes of photography of wild animals in wild places.
Each episode is full of behind-the-scenes footage of photo shoots in the field. Graves talks gear, setup, strategy and anything else that pertains to making great and memorable images of wildlife. The series shows the gear and techniques he uses to capture photos of animals on their turf.
“Essentially, it’s like a hunting show that you see on television, but instead of hunting with a gun or a bow, I’m hunting with my camera. There’s a big educational component to each episode, and there are two episodes up on the site now with more episodes already shot and soon to be launched,” Graves told the Texas Farm Bureau Radio Network. “The best comments I’ve heard on the series so far is that after the shoot is over, I’ve got a segment within the video that I break down why I like the shots, give the technical specs of shutter speed, aperture, ISO and what it took to make that shot. And then I talk about my physical setup. Why I set up where I did, where I expected the animal to come from and how everything worked together to get that shot.”
Graves has been traveling the state since 1989, telling authentic Texas stories with his camera and his words—both written and spoken.
In fact, he may be one of Texas’ most published photographers during that time.
He’s had more than 400 magazine covers, an estimated 600,000 words published, has authored six books, produced a full-length television documentary and continues to produce new content on a daily basis.
A graduate of Dodd City High School and East Texas State University, Graves was an agricultural science teacher in Childress, Texas for 16 years, where he was named Texas Agriscience Teacher of the Year on three occasions.
“You know, I’m pretty excited about the show. Hopefully, it will become a resource for people who want to do wildlife photography, just to learn a little bit more about it,” Graves said. “You can go to The Wildlife Photo Show website, and while you’re there, you can subscribe to get updates when new videos are launched, and that’s the only thing you will get updates about. I won’t spam you with anything else.”
