The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will issue $52 million in grants to support America’s specialty crop farmers through the 2013 Specialty Crop Block Grant (SCBG) program.

The USDA reports the funding includes 54 block grants to U.S. states and territories that will support 694 initiatives nationwide. These grants will assist producers of fresh fruits and vegetables and help strengthen markets for specialty crops such as fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture and nursery crops, including floriculture.

SCBG program’s goal is to promote and increase opportunities for specialty crop producers.
