Republican leaders in the U.S. House expect to pass a disapproval resolution regarding the “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) on Wednesday.
The House last spring passed a bill by a vote of 261-155 that would force the administration to replace the rule. The disapproval resolution passed the Senate in November, 53-44, well short of the two-thirds majority necessary to overturn a presidential veto.
The Texas Farm Bureau supports repeal of the WOTUS rule. It believes the rule is a power grab by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that puts the livelihoods of Texas farmers in jeopardy by forcing them to obtain permits to do otherwise legal farm activity in areas that only sometimes hold water.
The WOTUS rule took effect in August. Courts have blocked the rule’s enforcement nationwide while legal challenges to it are considered.
