Farmers, ranchers and property owners in Henderson County can drive up and drop off agricultural pesticides from 8 a.m. to noon on April 20.
The free agricultural pesticide waste collection event, hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), will be held at the Lone Star Farmers Cooperate in Mereta.
Pesticides must be in their original containers, even if the label is not present. Unknown pesticides will be tested onsite.
“If you have unwanted, surplus agricultural pesticides, this is an event to safely and properly dispose of them,” said Robert Pritz, AgriLife Extension regional program director in San Angelo. “We’re glad to provide this service for the residents of Tom Green County and surrounding areas.”
Items that will be accepted include:
- discontinued or unwanted agricultural pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, rodenticides, or nematicides
- growth regulators
- empty, triple-rinsed plastic pesticide containers no more than 55 gallons
- and empty or partial metal drums.
Items that will not be accepted include:
- explosive ordinances and ammunition
- petroleum-based products
- paints
- medical wastes
- radioactive substances
- household pesticides, chemicals and waste
- tires
- fertilizers
- propane or butane cylinders
- chlorinated hydrocarbons
- fumigant canisters
- used motor oil and other automobile fluids
- auto batteries
- empty totes
- methyl-bromide cylinders
- and dioxins.
Pesticide dealers and commercial businesses are not allowed to participate.
