This year, Earth Day is celebrating its 45th anniversary on April 22. The first Earth Day in 1970 is what many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement, according to Earth Day Network.
More than 1 billion people in 192 countries will participate in Earth Day activities and events, making it the largest civic observance in the world.
Farmers and ranchers observe Earth Day 365 days a year, says Texas Farm Bureau Public Relations Director Gene Hall.
“While we celebrate Earth Day today, farmers and ranchers will take a moment, tip their caps in a salute to the good earth, and keep growing the food that sustains us all,” Hall said.
