Numerous speakers will share their knowledge on a wide range of issues—including the farm bill, electronic logging device mandate and commodity issues—at this year’s Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Summer Leadership Conference in Marble Falls.

“This annual conference allows our members to hear the latest legislative updates, as well as information specific to various commodities,” Regan Beck, TFB director of Government Affairs, said. “Staying well-informed on agricultural and legislative issues is essential for everyone involved in agriculture.”

The conference is set for June 25-27 at the Horseshoe Bay Resort.

During the conference, farmers and ranchers will learn the latest on the farm bill.

“The 2018 Farm Bill is on everyone’s mind right now,” Beck said. “Having strong legislation that supports agriculture and our efforts is key moving forward, especially as we’ve seen farm income continue to decline over the past several years.”

An expert will share information and details regarding the electronic logging device mandate.

“Agricultural haulers were granted another 90-day waiver, and we need to use that time to make sure we understand the mandate and how all sectors of agriculture will be affected,” Beck said.

Issues related to commodities will be highlighted, and TFB’s 24 commodity advisory groups will also meet during the conference.

Michelle Miller, known on social media as the Farm Babe, will be a keynote speaker during the conference. She’ll share about her experiences of advocating for agriculture online, the conversations she’s had with consumers and how to bridge the gap between agriculture and consumers.

“Conversations about food and agriculture happen online every day,” Gene Hall, TFB director of Communications, said. “Michelle is part of those conversations on social media, and she’s made efforts to bridge the gap between farmers and consumers. Her insights will be beneficial for all to hear.”

Members of FarmLead VI will be recognized during Monday’s kick-off dinner.

This class has spent the last two years traveling the state and abroad to meet face-to-face with key political leaders, decision-makers and industry representatives, as well as developed leadership skills and relationships across all of agriculture.
