Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) announced a new scholarship initiative with Texas State Technical College (TSTC) last year, and last week, the state board of directors toured the Waco campus.

The directors visited classrooms, toured the welding workshops and learned more about the precision machining, aerospace technology and diesel engine repair courses that TSTC offers.

TFB has made $35,000 available in scholarship funds to first-year and enrolled students.

The school system has 10 campuses across the state, offering degrees in a variety of fields from agricultural technology to biology, culinary arts, diesel equipment and welding.

To help as many students as possible, the Texan Success Scholarship is matching $25,000 of TFB’s donation through TSTC.

The scholarship funding is used in three ways.

Fifty, $1,000 scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

A percentage of the funding is used for a “helping hands” scholarship. The fund is meant to help students with unexpected costs that are not usually covered by traditional scholarships.

To help students stay in school, there are $5,000 in scholarships for TFB members entering their second year at TSTC.

TFB members may apply for the scholarships through their TSTC campus.

Campuses are located in Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood, Fort Bend County, Harlingen, Marshall, North Texas, Sweetwater, Waco and Williamson County.
