Three Texas Farm Bureau members have been named to the Texas Beef Council (TBC) and the Beef Promotion and Research Council of Texas (BPRCT) boards of directors.
Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Vice President Michael White, Dave Edmiston and Dan Shelton represent the state’s largest farm and ranch organization and Texas cattlemen and women.
Through their roles on the boards, they will help establish the budget and ultimately decide which demand-building programs receive funding collected under the national and state beef checkoff programs.
White, a fourth generation farmer and rancher in Wilbarger County, is in his first term and serves on the domestic marketing committee. This committee approves and evaluates checkoff-funded programs in retail and foodservice outreach, consumer marketing, media relations and nutrition and health outreach.
He grows wheat and cotton and raises commercial cattle. White and his wife, Susan, have two daughters and are active in their community.
Edmiston is serving his sixth and final term on the boards. As the past chairman of the TBC board, he serves on the executive committee and the beef resources committee. In his role on the executive committee, Edmiston helps oversee board decisions and speaks on behalf of Texas cattlemen and women.
He is a third generation rancher in McCulloch County, where he and his family manage a cow-calf, hay, small grain and wildlife operation. He also serves on the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and is a life member of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. Edmiston previously served as a TFB state director and U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) director.
He and his wife, Peggy, have two daughters, one grandson and one granddaughter.
Shelton, who is in his fourth term, also serves on the beef resources committee. As a member of this committee, Shelton approves and evaluates checkoff-funded beef quality assurance programs, producer communications, issues and reputation management, research projects and export programs conducted in partnership with the USMEF.
A fourth generation farmer who resides in De Kalb, Shelton is a former TFB state director and serves on the livestock and forage committee for Bowie County Extension Service. He also serves on the livestock and forage committee for Bowie County Extension Service. Shelton and his wife, Kay, have three children.
Board members’ terms coincide with TBC’s fiscal year that began Oct. 1. Directors can serve up to six consecutive one-year terms on the checkoff boards.
