Favorable farm bill provisions and low commodity prices for other crops prompted a rise in the amount of peanuts planted in the Lone Star State last year.

According to Southwest Farm Press, Texas farmers produced 294,000 tons of peanuts last year. That’s an increase of more than 64,000 tons of peanuts.

A recent U.S. Department of Agriculture report on peanut production reveals the average yield for peanuts was up 40 percent over the last year.

Approximately 1.57 million acres of peanuts were harvested in the U.S. last year. That’s up from just over 1.3 million in 2014.
