Relief may be in sight for Texas cotton growers in their fight against pigweed. The longer growing season in Texas has made the problem of weed-resistance more intense across the region.
Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) officials have asked the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for an emergency permit to use the herbicide (propazine) to help cotton producers stave off the growth of Palmer amaranth, which potentially threatens substantial crop losses this season, according to Southwest Farm Press.
Propazine is similar to atrazine, the primary ingredient in Milo-Pro. If the EPA agrees to the emergency request for the use of propazine, 3 million cotton acres across the Lone Star State will benefit.
