The Texas Department of Agriculture’s (TDA) County Hog Out Management Program runs through Nov. 30. The program’s goal is to reduce the feral hog population and to continue abatement during the year through incentives to qualifying counties throughout the Lone Star State.
According to TDA, the highest ranking counties in this program will receive assistance to continue local activities which may range from educating the landowners on abatement methods, coordinating trapping and hunting programs, to conducting aerial gunning and addressing public safety hazards related to feral hogs.
To be eligible for an award under the program, the applicant must be a Texas county. The county must have or develop a method to accurately track the number of feral hogs taken in the county during Sept. 1 through Nov. 30, 2014.
TDA anticipates making eight awards ranging from $20,000 to $5,000 each.
The deadline is Monday, Dec. 15, 2014. For more information, visit the “Grants Office” section under the “Grants and Services” tab at www.TexasAgriculture.gov or contact TDA at (512) 463-6908, or Grants@TexasAgriculture.gov.
