Widespread rains in May and June did more than just end the drought. They raised lakes to levels not seen in years, improving state fish stocking and spawning conditions.
Spring rains also benefited reservoirs, allowing hatchery fish to be stocked into ideal habitat. When reservoir levels drop for several years, vegetation grows up in the dry lake bottom. But when levels rise, the flooded vegetation offers fish a place to hide from predators.
Those rising water levels benefit all species of fish. And fishing should see improvements in the next several years.
