According to USDA, more than 98 percent of producers have met the requirement to certify conservation compliance and will qualify for crop insurance subsidies.

U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack said it is an overwhelming response, Brownfield Ag News reported, and the USDA said the number of those not in compliance may be smaller than figures indicate.

The Farm Service Agency is reaching out to producers who have not filed the form to try to help them comply, but USDA records suggest the majority are no longer farming or may have made errors in filing.

The 2014 Farm Bill provisions for conservation compliance are expected to extend conservation provisions for millions of acres of highly erodible land and wetlands.
