In an effort to continue honoring hard-working Texas farmers and ranchers, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) is seeking applications for the Family Land Heritage program. Applications are due May 1, 2014.

Family farms and ranchers are the backbone of Texas agriculture, Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples said.

To be eligible, farms and ranches must still be owned and operated by the descendants of the founder, either through blood, marriage or adoption. The program has recognized more than 4,800 properties in 237 counties across the Lone Star State.
