Nominations are being sought for Texas representatives on the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB).
The CBB’s goal is to maintain and expand domestic and foreign markets and uses for beef and beef products. Under the direction of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), the board manages investing the $1 per head beef checkoff assessment collected each time cattle are sold in the U.S. and from imported beef, beef products and live cattle.
USDA is seeking nominations to succeed 27 members with terms that expire in March 2024.
Each year, the U.S. secretary of agriculture appoints a portion of all board members from cattle producers and importers nominated by eligible organizations.
This year, four Texas seats are currently open for a three-year term beginning in 2024 and ending in 2026.
Cattle producers may submit their application to certified nominating organizations in Texas. Once applications are received and reviewed, the Texas beef industry caucus of certified nominating organizations will submit the nominees to USDA.
Interested Texas cattle producers must complete Form AD755 and the Agreement To Serve document to be considered. The documents should be submitted to staff contacts of the certified nominating organizations provided by USDA.
Since 1966, Congress has authorized the development of industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool their resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets and conduct important research and promotion activities. AMS provides oversight of 22 boards, paid for by industry assessments, which helps ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.
The deadline for nominations is July 10.
