As deer and dove hunting seasons approach in the Lone Star State, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is reminding hunters that a hunter education certificate is required for hunters born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, in addition to a hunting license.

That requirement includes both in-state and out-of-state hunters.

The minimum age of certification for hunters is 9 years old. Hunters under nine must be accompanied by a licensed adult. Additional restrictions apply.

Dove hunting season for areas north of I-10 opens Sept. 1. For all areas south, the season opens Sept. 19. A zone map is available on the hunting section of the TPWD website.

White-tailed deer season follows with a Nov. 1 open date. Additional details are available online at http://tpwd.texas.gov.
