Richard and Pat Saunders’ tree operation in Frankston has been recognized by the Texas Forestry Association (TFA) as the 2015 Texas Outstanding Tree Farm, according to the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

“The Saunders have shown exceptional forest management on their property. It’s very well-managed land, and it’s multi-use. They plant trees, they encourage the wildlife. They have management plans and are very careful to use best practices,” said Susan Stutts of the Texas Forestry Association.

Saunders’ farm is a combination of timber growth and wildlife habitat on 716 acres that has been in Richard’s family since 1868.

“A lot of people think trees just happen,” he said. “They don’t. Nature isn’t that kind. Trees require care,” said Richard Saunders.
