The Senate approved a procedural motion to advance the long-delayed farm legislation by a 72-22 vote, and the final vote is expected to come as early as today.

Last week, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the legislation that ends direct payments for farmers in favor of enhanced crop insurance, trims food stamps, creates a new dairy program and consolidates agricultural conservation programs.

According to Politico, the strong bipartisan vote on the Senate motion indicates the chamber will likely approve the final passage.
