It’s time to finalize your farm bill safety net program choice.

The deadline to sign a contract and enroll in the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC), Price Loss Coverage (PLC) and the Margin Protection Program for Dairy (MPP-Dairy) is Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Most farmers have already made their ARC or PLC choice. Now is simply the time for them to sign their contract and enroll in the program officially for the 2014 and 2015 crop years.

For dairymen, the selection will cover 2016. More than half of American dairymen are expected to participate in the safety net program.
More than 1.7 million farmers are expected to sign contracts for ARC and PLC this year. The programs cover the following commodities: barley, canola, large and small chickpeas, corn, crumb, flaxseed, grain sorghum, lentils, mustard seed, oats, peanuts, dry peas, rapeseed, long and medium grain rice, safflower seed, sesame, soybeans, sunflower seed and wheat.

Upland cotton is no longer covered.

The elections made this year will continue through 2018. Ownership and shares may be adjusted during annual enrollment.
