The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) comment date for dicamba formulations has been extended to May 31, according to Progressive Farmer.
Dicamba, a herbicide, is to be used in conjunction with Monsanto’s Xtend herbicide technology. With the comment date being extended, farmers can plant the new technology, but cannot use the herbicide this season.
Multiple agricultural companies have commercialized soybeans that are tolerant to dicamba for the first time this spring. These companies are working with farmers if they choose to switch seeds since the herbicide will not be available for use this planting season.
The EPA will review all comments at the end of the period. EPA officials hope to release their findings in late summer or early fall.
