Use drones for fun? Or to scout crops and check on livestock? You may soon have to register the machines.
A new task force, appointed to address the rising issues of unmanned aircrafts violating U.S. airspace, will explore and recommend a registration process for unmanned aircraft systems used for recreational purposes.
The task force’s recommendation, and any additional safety recommendations it deems appropriate, must be submitted to the U.S. Department of Transportation by Nov. 20.
Farmers and ranchers who want to use drones for their operations must wait until the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issues its final rules, which would govern the use of small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in agriculture and other enterprises.
Those rules likely won’t be announced until sometime in 2016.
