Through written commitments, members of the Animal Health Institute (AHI) and the Generic Animal Drug Alliance (GADA) have announced their intentions to align with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) policy on judicious use of antibiotics.

Final Guidance 213 would phase out the growth promotion uses of medically important compounds, while phasing in veterinary oversight of therapeutic products, according to Feedstuffs. The agency expects this new policy to be fully implemented over the next three years.

The agency still needs to issue a final rule on proposed changes to the veterinary feed directive, which is the method used to confirm veterinary oversight of products used in feed.
