By a 219-205 vote, the House approved a fiscal year 2015 budget proposal aimed at reducing federal spending with cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and mandatory agricultural outlays, according to Agri-Pulse.
The proposal, authored by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), would reduce federal spending by $5.1 trillion over a 10-year period. Funding for SNAP would be cut by $125 billion and $23 billion from mandatory agricultural outlays, which could include reductions to crop insurance.
The bill will not advance to the Senate.
