A Women’s Ranch Seminar, hosted by the Hill Country CattleWomen, Texas Farm Bureau, Texas Beef Council and Lyssy and Eckel Feeds, is set for Jan. 26.
The number of women managing farms and ranches has grown over the last decade, according to U.S. census data, and the seminar will assist women in decision making for ranching operations and property ownership.
A range management session will be led by Fred Reyna, a rangeland management specialist with USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, from 8-8:45 a.m. This session will have limited seating and will be held prior to the main doors opening at 9 a.m.
Other topics include feral hog control, livestock health and a legislative update.
A discussion panel will feature women who are actively managing their ranches. They will share their experiences and additional information on owning and operating a ranch.
An exhibit area will be on-site and will include a feed specialist, USDA representatives, estate lawyers and Brush Busters and Prescribed Burn program representatives, among others.
Three continuing education units will be available for those who attend the seminar.
A comprehensive resource handbook, provided by the Hill Country CattleWomen, will also be available for each attendee.
The seminar is free and is set for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Gillespie County Farm Bureau building in Fredericksburg. RSVP by Jan. 19 at www.hillcountrycattlewomen.com.
