There could be movement on the farm bill this week.

According to Politico, members of the U.S. House who are serving on the farm bill conference committee have been alerted to a Monday morning meeting where leaders hope to finalize a conference report to be brought to the full House floor this week.

The memo to staffers asked respective members of the committee to be in the nation’s capital Monday for the vote.
The situation remains tentative, according to Politico.

The Senate has not yet announced its specific plans for moving forward with a full, five-year farm bill.

The 2012 extension of the 2008 farm bill expired Sept. 30. Officials say without new farm legislation by Feb. 1, the U.S. Department of Agriculture may have to revert to permanent 1949 law, which could have negative effects for both farmers and consumers.
