The latest cold front that swept across Texas likely didn’t cause damage to peach and other fruit trees as their buds weren’t open enough, according to one Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert.
Most of the fruit and nut crops still have tight buds, so they probably weren’t exposed enough to receive any significant damage, said Extension horticulturist Dr. Larry Stein. However, if there are seven to 10 warm days followed by another cold spell, the development of buds and shoots will be damaged.
