Former Texas State Senator Bill Sims of San Angelo, a longtime champion of Texas agriculture and close friend of Texas Farm Bureau (TFB), passed away Aug. 29.
Sims served in the Texas Senate for 14 years (1983-1997), representing a large portion of West and Central Texas. He was 84.
“Senator Sims was a great champion of agriculture. While serving on the Senate Natural Resources Committee, he steadfastly promoted agricultural interests,” said TFB Director of Government Affairs Regan Beck. “We recognized his leadership and presented him with the TFB Outstanding and Meritorious Service to Agriculture Award in 1998.”
Sims was a former assistant county Extension agent for Howard County and county Extension agent for Irion County. He served for nearly 30 years as the executive secretary for the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association.
Burial will be Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin at 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 2, at San Angelo First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m.

So sad to see this post about Mr. Sims. When I was in high school I baby sit for him and Mrs Sims when he was in Irion County.
