High school juniors and seniors with an interest in pursuing a career in the fed beef industry are encouraged to attend Texas Cattle Feeders Association’s (TCFA) Junior Fed Beef Career and Leadership Program.

The program, also known as Feedyard Camp, is set for June 27-29 at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU). Hosted with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and WTAMU, the camp gives 20 students from across Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico an in-depth look at how beef is raised.

Participants will tour a feedyard and beef processing facility, meet with feedyard personnel and TCFA staff and visit the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. They will also cut their own steaks at the WTAMU meats lab and interact with area agricultural leaders.

“Feedyard camp gives students with an interest in agriculture a truly one-of-a-kind experience in learning about beef production,” said TCFA Market and Membership Manager Brady Miller. “The Amarillo area is ideal for an experience such as this due to our strong and diverse beef community. With feedyards, research and beef processing facilities all right here, we can give students the most comprehensive learning experience of its kind when it comes to beef.”

The course is $100 per student. Applications are due May 15.
