The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, in cooperation with the Texas AgrAbility Project and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will be holding two free “Battleground to Breaking Ground: A Transformation Journey” agricultural workshops to assistant current and former military in learning about starting, developing and funding an agricultural business.

“While the program is designed for current and former military, it is open to others who may benefit as well,” Dr. Cheryl Grenwelge, AgriLife Extension specialist in disability transition with the Texas AgrAbility Project, told AgriLife Today. “New farmers and ranchers, women and small-landholder farmers and ranchers can also benefit from attending the workshop.”

Topics of the workshop will include agricultural business start up, business plan development, possibilities for farming and ranching with a disability and financial funding for agricultural enterprises.

“The Texas AgrAbility portion of this program focuses on assisting those with disabilities and chronic health conditions to stay engaged in production agriculture,” Erin Pilosi-Kimbrough, program coordinator, agricultural workshops for military veterans, told AgriLife Today.

The first workshop will be held May 7 in College Station. The second workshop is set for June 4 in Elmendorf.

Registration is available online or by mail. For more information, contact Pilosi-Kimbrough at 979-847-6185 or empilosi@ag.tamu.edu.
