Although the Lone Star State has not had any confirmed cases, the worst avian flu outbreak on record has Texas poultry farmers taking extra precautions.

The common influenza is found naturally in migratory birds, and commercial and backyard flocks aren’t immune. Once the birds come in contact with each other, the disease spreads rapidly.

And there are no vaccines that effectively prevent the spread of the virus.

Summer is coming and will slow the spread of the disease. But Texas poultry farmers will remain vigilant to keep avian flu out of the Lone Star State.
