Texas A&M AgriLife Research (AgriLife) on behalf of Texas A&M University System signed an agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to fight world hunger.

Together, they will carry out initiatives to strengthen agricultural production innovations, land and water management practices, and plant and animal health to improve food security, according to The Cattle Site. In addition, they will work on building resilience and improving value chain management to help promote economic stability and improve livelihoods for small-holder farming communities.

“Hunger cannot be defeated by any organization or entity on its own,” said Marla Helena Semado, deputy director-general of FAO. “We recognize that through strategic partnerships we can support member countries more effectively in eliminating hunger.”

The partnership will work to build sustainable agriculture and natural resource management at the country, regional and global levels to improve food supply and food security for communities around the world.
