Many Texans take great pride in owning their piece of land, but with that property comes many rights and responsibilities.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service aims to educate landowners on several issues through an upcoming weekly webinar series, Landowner Laws and Responsibilities.

The free series, hosted by the Burnet, Lampasas and Mills County AgriLife Extension offices, is set for Oct. 23-Nov. 13. Meetings will be held via Zoom every Friday from 1-3 p.m.

“Workshops on law-related topics are always popular with our producers,” Kelly Tarla, Burnet County AgriLife Extension agent, said. “We’ve got a group of speakers who will address many legal concerns and questions that landowners frequently have.”

Featured guest speakers include James Bradbury, adjunct professor at Texas A&M School of Law and Fort Worth attorney who specializes in environmental and eminent domain issues.

In the first webinar, Bradbury, who recently successfully represented a Texas landowner in an appeal against a groundwater district, will be discussing Texas water law.

Later in the series, participants will also hear from Luke Ellis, a Texas eminent domain and condemnation trial attorney based out of Austin.

Ellis is recognized as one of Texas’s top eminent domain lawyers. He exclusively focuses on representing landowners facing condemnation and eminent domain proceedings.

A session on estate planning and conservation easements will be covered by Bradbury, along with Steve Clausen, a San Antonio-based wealth preservation, probate and tax attorney.

Clausen’s practice is centered around family-owned businesses, including many farms and ranches. His background includes tax and estate planning, business succession planning, business entity formation, organization and restructuring and charitable planning with a broad agricultural emphasis.

AgriLife Extension county agents Tarla, Heath Lusty of Lampasas County and Tom Guthrie of Mills County will also host a session detailing landowner resources available through AgriLife Extension Service and other agencies.

Preregistration with one of the AgriLife Extension county agents hosting the event is required.
