Before Sept. 26, farmers and landowners need to verify their farm records of the planted and considered planted acreage recorded by the Farm Service Agency (FSA). The acreage history will be FSA’s source for making base reallocation decisions.

Southwest Farm Press reports that under the 2014 Farm Bill, landowners will have a one-time opportunity to reallocate bases and update payment yields of “covered commodities” on a farm.

FSA mailed letters to farmers and landowners in July, which detailed, on the back of the letter, their farm record of planted and considered planted acreage history from 2008 to 2012.

If any information appears to be incomplete or incorrect, contact your local FSA office before the deadline. The letter gave a 60-day deadline for reviewing planting history. This information is not for making the base reallocation/update decision—it is only an accuracy check of planted acreage.

If the information in the letter is correct, no further action is needed at this time.
