Texas agriculture will be on display at livestock shows and fairs this fall through the Planet Ag exhibit.
Texas Farm Bureau’s interactive exhibit, Planet Ag, is designed to engage consumers on where their food comes from, TFB Director of Urban Outreach Dakota Fleming said.
“Today, people are two or three generations removed from the farm,” she said. “They buy their food from the grocery store, and that’s how they see agriculture—just from the glass doors of the store. Planet Agriculture is designed to bridge the gap and connect consumers to the food production practices of farmers.”
Planet Agriculture, which highlights livestock and agricultural crops grown in Texas, will be on display at the East Texas State Fair in Tyler from Sept. 20-29, the State Fair of Texas in Dallas from Sept. 27 to Oct. 20 and the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo in Waco from Oct. 3-13.
There will be a few changes for the exhibit at the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo, Fleming said. Planet Agriculture will be in a new building this year, next to several other kid-friendly exhibits. TFB will also have the Harvest Experience trailer, a corn or wheat harvest simulator, for fairgoers to interact with.
“Texans of all ages can explore agriculture through the exhibit’s interactive games, videos, demonstrations and presentations at livestock shows and fairs this fall,” Fleming said.
The focus is on personal learning, Fleming noted. Leather crafting, hand-spinning wool, food nutrition and other presentations—varied depending on the venue—gives fairgoers a more localized experience.
