The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has extended the public comment period on the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) interim rule to Jan. 20, 2015.
CSP is the nation’s largest conservation program with nearly 70 million acres.
The proposal revises rules under CSP that govern responsibilities of the Regional Conservation Partnership Program, according to Farm Futures. CSP also pays participants for conservation performance—the better the performance, the higher the payment.
Through the program, landowners install conservation enhancements to make positive changes in soil, water and air quality; water quantity; energy conservation; and plant and animal resources.
Official notice of the comment period extension and instructions for submitting comments can be found in the Federal Register.
