Consumers are hungry for information when it comes to food, and several North Texas county Farm Bureaus helped satisfy that appetite. Their efforts earned farmers and ranchers from multiple counties recognition from Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) and the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF).
The multi-County Farm Bureau (CFB) partnership of Archer, Baylor, Clay, Montague and Wichita was one of four county Farm Bureaus to be recognized by TFB. They’re one of 24 CFBs nationwide to receive a County Activities of Excellence Award from AFBF.
“With a growing urban population, it is so important that we talk about agriculture and how we grow our food, fiber and fuel,” Gregg Eastman, Wichita CFB president, said.
Leaders from the five CFBs collaborated on a booth at the Arts Alive! Home and Garden Festival in Wichita Falls earlier this year.
They used educational resources, a mobile learning barn and an antique corn sheller to initiate conversations. Hands-on activities, games for children and videos about crops were part of the exhibit.
Area FFA and 4-H members also helped the groups work the exhibit.
“This activity truly allowed farmers and ranchers to be the voice of agriculture,” Mark Daniel, TFB District 3 state director, said. “We answered questions and had good conversations about modern agriculture with those who stopped by our booth. They also learned facts they can share with others from the videos we had playing and the information on the mobile learning barn.”
The multi-CFB partnership was recognized during TFB’s 85th Annual Meeting Dec. 1-3 in Corpus Christi.
They will be highlighted during AFBF’s Annual Convention & IDEAg Trade Show Jan. 11-16 in New Orleans.
