The deadline to apply for Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is just around the corner. Applications must be submitted to one of the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (NRCS) offices across the state.

EQIP is a continuous sign-up program that allows landowners or operators to apply for assistance of specific conservation practices, but the deadline for the first 2016 funding allocation is March 18.

Applications made after the deadline will be considered in the next funding cycle. Higher priority will be given to those applications that address national, state, and local priorities and provide higher cost efficiency, according to a NRCS news release.

The voluntary conservation program promotes environmental quality and provides technical and financial assistance for landowners or operators to meet local, state and federal regulations.

EQIP funds are available to assist with installing or implementing structural, vegetative and management practices that can benefit the soil, water, air, plants, livestock and wildlife.
