The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)—in partnership with the Texas Freight Advisory Committee, federal, state, regional, local, private and public stakeholders—is leading efforts to update the Texas Freight Mobility Plan.

The update will help ensure the transportation system moves goods safely and efficiently throughout the state and continues to support Texas’ economic growth and competitiveness.

TxDOT is about to start the second round of public engagement as they update the Texas Freight Mobility Plan. The agency will be conducting 11 regional workshops across the state to get feedback on freight transportation system investments from public and private sector stakeholders.

The oil and gas industry in the Midland/Odessa area and other facilities that generate freight are influential in the growth of truck and train traffic. Input from freight and logistics stakeholders will help inform TxDOT of the transportation needs, challenges, projects, recommendations and how the region will meet its growing demand.

They will also share comments received during the first round of public engagement and ask stakeholders how it should prioritize projects. They are looking for representation from air cargo, shippers, receivers, rail, ports, trucking, energy manufacturing, retail agriculture, pipelines, freight forwarders, transporters or organizations involved in freight movement and the general public throughout the state.

Workshops will be held to allow representatives to gather input on key freight issues, needs and challenges in regions and across the state. These workshops will provide an overview of the existing Freight Mobility Plan and allow the discussion on the new federal requirements for the freight plan update.

Each workshop is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The sessions will begin June 6 and end June 29.

Registration is now open for the workshops here.
