The second season of the popular television series Lone Star Law on Animal Planet is now complete.

A Texas game warden involved in the program believes it successfully captures the diversity of the state, from the people to the wildlife and to the wild places.

“We’re super excited. We just finished season two. It seemed to be a big hit. We love it,” said Texas Game Warden Capt. Steve Stapleton of Canton in an interview with Texas Farm Bureau Radio Network. “We’re trying to give the viewers at home a good diversity of things that we do out there. If we educate one person, we’re doing our job.”

Stapleton said his involvement with Lone Star Law has grown in the program’s first two years.

“I’ve got the film crew up there in my district, so not only do I get filmed a little bit, but most all of my wardens in the district get filmed. And then there’s all of the behind-the-scenes work of trying to get the film crew to the right warden at the right time. And, as you can imagine, timing is everything,” he said.

Stapleton said he also assists with some of the show’s editing. He added the production crews have been great to work with and that the crews understand the nature of a game warden’s work.

“And surprisingly, what we’ve noticed as game wardens in the field, once we’re mic’ed up and we’ve got the crew with you, we don’t see them. It’s very seldom that we actually notice that they’re with us,” Stapleton said. “It’s unique, it really is. It’s a lot of work, it’s a lot of time, and it’s a lot of effort on everybody’s part.”
He said he doesn’t have a favorite episode, although any episode that features him gets noticed by at least one family member.

“I was talking to my mom the other day, and she doesn’t understand why I’m not in every episode, like a good mother should,” he said laughing.

Lone Star Law airs on Animal Planet on Sundays at 9 p.m. (central).
